Refrigerant Charge and Microchannel Heat Exchangers
Separate exchanger internal volume from total system charge, and define an equivalent baseline for a charge-reduction enquiry.
Microchannel Technology
Core volume is one factor
Small internal passages can influence the fluid volume in a heat exchanger. However, exchanger volume and total system refrigerant charge are different quantities.
Account for the whole system
Piping, other heat exchangers, receivers or accumulators, operating modes and control requirements affect the system charge. A core-level comparison cannot be applied automatically as a system-wide percentage.
Use an equivalent comparison
Compare designs at the required duty and operating conditions. Changing capacity, circuiting or installation can change the result. Ask for the data and assumptions used in any claimed reduction.
State a target clearly
If charge reduction is an objective, include the baseline, equipment architecture and required performance in the enquiry. Confirm the proposed component and validate the complete system. BKF does not publish an unsupported charge-reduction percentage here.
