Microchannel Heat Exchangers for Heat Pumps
Review heat pump operating modes, ambient conditions, frost and drainage before specifying a microchannel coil.
Heat Pumps
Specify the operating modes
A heating-only and a reversible system need different reviews. Identify the role of the proposed exchanger in each operating mode and provide the corresponding design conditions.
Look beyond the rated point
Include the lower and upper ambient range, part-load operation and conditions that affect refrigerant distribution. A coil selected for one steady operating point may need additional review across the range.
Consider frost and drainage
When an air-side coil operates below the relevant air dew point or freezing conditions, condensate and frost behavior matter. Provide orientation, drainage arrangements and the proposed defrost sequence to the system designer.
Confirm the proposed component
Request model-specific operating limits, refrigerant confirmation and performance evidence. Do not infer reversibility from a photograph of a condenser. Include sample validation and acceptance criteria in the RFQ.
