Common Causes of Microchannel Heat Exchanger Corrosion
Record exposure, cleaning history and failure evidence to investigate microchannel corrosion and discuss material and surface treatment requirements.
Troubleshooting
Describe the environment
Coastal salt exposure, industrial pollutants, retained moisture and cleaning practices can affect corrosion risk. Identify the actual installation rather than using a general indoor or outdoor label.
Material and surface treatment
Ask for the proposed material and surface-treatment information. A general statement that a core is aluminum does not establish its suitability for every environment.
Maintenance and cleaning
Follow the component supplier’s instructions for cleaning and handling. Products and methods that are inappropriate for the core can damage surfaces or leave residues. Access and drainage should be considered during installation.
Investigating a failure
Record location, operating history, exposure, cleaning products and photographs of the affected area. Separate leakage at a joint from corrosion damage and physical impact. A root-cause review needs evidence; do not assume every leak has the same cause.
Technical references
General technical references; they do not certify BKF products.
